When you are trying to find the right domain name, you must make sure you pick the right name, as this is so important for so many different reasons. We have put a list together of our top tips when searching for the perfect domain name:

Make it Easy

Making your domain name easy is essential. You want something that is easy to read, is memorable and if people see your website advertised, they can quickly type it into Google or on their phone to look at later. If you think of Google, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc – they are all easy to spell, single words and you can find them no problem.

Keywords, Keywords, Keywords

A benefit of being able to select your own domain name, is that you can use it as keywords. If you are unsure what a keyword is, it is a word or phrase that describes the contents of a web page. Search engines pick up on these keywords and ultimately boost you higher up the rankings. So, try to use this to your advantage, if you are a gardener, try to use that in your domain name, keep it relevant.

Research

If you have thought of the perfect domain name, research it and make sure it is available! If it isn’t, try and see if a different domain name extension is available (.com, .co.uk) or see if it is available. Alternatively, look at your target area. If you only provide a service in a certain area, then she if this is also available. That will also help with keywords.

Avoid Numbers

If you can – avoid numbers! At all costs. Avoid them. Please! They are difficult for people to remember; they don’t look too pleasing to the eye and they are just pointless when it comes to a domain name.

Keep it Short

As the saying goes ‘keep it short and sweet’ – again, it is easy to remember. No-one is going to see an add with your website that is 5 words long and remember it. When a website is displayed, there are no breaks between the words, so it is harder to take in.
